Make a tax-free gift from your IRA.

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a direct transfer of funds from your IRA custodian to a qualified charity, like the Redwood City Library Foundation!
An individual donor can contribute up to $105,000 per year in QCDs, as long as that individual is 70½ years old or older. For married couples, each spouse can make QCDs up to the $105,000 limit for a potential total of $210,000.

In addition to the benefits of giving to charity, there is no income tax due on a QCD.
QCDs can be counted toward satisfying your required minimum distributions (RMDs) for the year, as long as certain rules are met. For a QCD to count towards your current year's RMD, the funds must come out of your IRA by your RMD deadline, generally December 31.
