Local resident and library volunteer Marc Rosati has generously agreed to underwrite the Traveling Storytime program for multiple years in memory of his mother, Ruth Marie Rosati. We’d been searching for the perfect donor to underwrite this program when we realized that Marc had a childhood connection to book outreach programs and understood the importance of the Traveling Storytime program (see inset). Meeting Pam Evans, the Traveling Storytime Coordinator, triggered happy memories from Marc’s childhood of his mother’s literacy efforts. One fond memory was riding with his mother in the 1960’s as she delivered books from a bookmobile in what was then rural Contra Costa County.

Ruth spent most of her career working as a county librarian in the little one-room library in Crockett, a job she loved. The whole community knew her and watched out for her. He thinks his mother would be mortified to learn about the book bans of today. Marc is a current volunteer tutor for Project READ and volunteered with Reading Partners for more than 10 years. We are grateful for his support of the Library and all our literacy and outreach programs, especially Traveling Storytime!

Traveling Storytime

Each week, trained volunteers read to groups of children in daycare centers and preschools throughout Redwood City, instilling the love of literature, learning, and libraries.
