Pub Crawl Educates & Supports Local Businesses

Pub Crawl for Banned Books
Georgi LaBerge and friends

The September Upscale Pub Crawl Fundraiser was a huge success. Over 350 community members enjoyed libations from 12 downtown Redwood City restaurants and pubs while learning more about Banned Books Week. Each location featured two banned books with Redwood City Library Foundation board members and volunteers on hand answering questions about why each book had been challenged. Last year, book bans and challenges increased in libraries and schools throughout the U.S.

Our goal was to raise awareness of the impact of book censorship, and encourage the community to protect the freedom to read. We also able raised over $25,000 to fund initiatives for the Redwood City Library. Community feedback from the restaurants, participants, and volunteers make us think this will become an annual event! For more info and photos click here.

Attendees raved "Congratulations on a terrific event! You managed to entertain many library supporters and provided great assistance to local restaurants and bars!" Georgi LaBerge

"I just wanted to let you know what a great evening the Pub Crawl turned out to be. I loved chatting with the very knowledgeable docents at each bar. I ran into old friends and made

some new ones. And the list of banned books is a very sobering document. Many thanks to all who put the energy into this event — I had a blast and got to support the libraries!"
