Public libraries like Redwood City Public Library are more than buildings—they are vibrant community hubs. While core funding from the local government covers essentials like staffing and facilities, it’s the support of dedicated nonprofit partners that truly brings the library to life.
The Redwood City Library Foundation (rclfdn.org) fuels innovation. Since 1998, it has funded impactful initiatives such as the Redwood Shores Branch Library opening day collection, Makerspace, Brainfuse online homework help, Bridging the Digital Divide, books for the Summer Learning Challenge, Teen Interns, and Career Online High School. Through fundraising, grants, and community support, the Foundation expands what the library can offer.
Carefully curated and maintained by Archives Committee volunteers, the Local History Collection (rwc-localhistory.com/) preserves Redwood City’s rich and colorful heritage, offering residents a unique window into the past. This invaluable resource invites patrons to explore local stories, people, and milestones.
The Friends of Literacy (projectreadredwoodcity.org/) supports Project READ, which transforms lives through literacy. Project READ provides free tutoring for adults and academically at-risk youth, and empowers learners with essential reading and language skills. From one-on-one support to English as a Second Language and family literacy programs, it helps individuals build confidence and pursue their goals.
The Friends of the Redwood City Library (friendsofrwclibrary.org/) supports library programming. This all-volunteer group turns donated books into funding for important programs, such as Author Visits, Traveling Storytime, Little Learners, Baby/Children/Teens, Arts and Crafts, Summer Learning Challenge programs and performers, Cultural Events and more—ensuring the library remains dynamic and inclusive.
Together, these organizations form the pillars that sustain and grow RCPL. Supporting them—whether by donating, volunteering, attending events, or contributing books—helps ensure the library continues to inspire, educate, and connect our community for generations to come.
